The Amy Biehl Foundation
As we are working more and more in South Africa we are meeting so many people who are contributing to positive change in the country. Recently Simon and our new South African account manager Brooke were introduced to one such organisation - the Amy Biehl Foundation. We are now very proud to be supporting them.
Brooke has written a very special blog entry about her first experiences with this incredible non profit organisation:
We were introduced to the Amy Biehl Foundation through a business colleague of ours in Cape Town, and have quickly chosen them as an inspirational organisation to support. Some of you may have heard the story of their origin. How a politically motivated young American woman travelled to South Africa to work for the future of a multiracial democracy, and how her life was tragically cut short. Even more remarkable is how her parents launched this Foundation and opened their arms to the very people who robbed them of their daughter, and how these young men have turned around their lives and are integral to the Amy Biehl organisation today.
Through our association with this inspirational organisation, both myself and our MD, Simon, were offered the chance to visit each of their five After School programmes in Guguletu. One sunny, and breezy Cape Town spring day we ventured out in our rental car, with the assistance of ‘Easy’ our knowledgeable tour guide. What we met on our three hour journey, was hundreds of creative and talented children who are engaged in activities which range from hip hop to gum boot dancing, from sports days to mime, from marimba to recorder and to top it off some fantastic brass and trumpet playing skills that would have most professionals excited for the future. With our experience and knowledge surrounding the arts, what really struck our hearts, was the energy and passion that these children so easily displayed, children that otherwise would be playing on the streets without structure, childcare and often food.
We are excited and humbled to be working with the Amy Biehl Foundation and urge you to support them alongside us. You can find out more about them on their website http://www.amybiehl.co.za
