Shades of Africa is a powerful, multilingual live production that fuses the richness of Africa with global sounds, reimagining iconic and traditional songs in a vibrant celebration of rhythm, colour, and storytelling. The production has been presented for major corporate audiences across South Africa and has appeared internationally for distinguished private audiences, including royalty and international celebrities. It has also featured as a headline act on international cruise stages, where it continues to receive standing ovations.

With a format designed for flexibility and impact, the show combines live piano, powerful vocal performances, and fully produced musical accompaniment to create an immersive theatrical experience that is both visually striking and artistically rich. Commanding the grand piano on stage is Christof van der Berg, winner of an international piano competition in Hollywood at the age of 16, recipient of the Premier’s Award and international performer who has travelled to more than 40 countries, his work carries both global experience and distinctive artistic depth. He is joined by the exceptional vocals of Zine Gwija, a finalist for The Lion King production in London who made her debut with André Rieu in Maastricht at a remarkably young age, and Nhoza Sitsholwana, a well-loved Cape Town singer who, prior to joining Shades of Africa, collaborated with Caribbean artists as well as the likes of Judy Boucher and Freshlyground, bringing a unique warmth and global texture to the stage. Together, the trio delivers a dynamic performance that moves effortlessly between languages including English, Xhosa, Sotho, Afrikaans and Zulu, creating a vibrant tapestry of sound that resonates with diverse audiences. Shades of Africa is more than a performance. It is a celebration of culture, rhythm, and connection, brought to life through world-class musicianship and a deeply human energy.

“Knowing the music well, I thought I knew what to expect, but I was not prepared for the

stage presence. This is more than a show, it is an experience”

—Izak De Vries, South African Culture Journalist, LitNet

“Effortlessly transcending the barriers of language in a multi-lingual vortex of words, the

voices and the notes of the piano leave you with a faint trace of scented cadence.”

—Leoni Smit, TV presenter and author of Masculus
