Another true comedy veteran Mel's career as an entertainer dates all the way back to the early 1960s, when, as a member of the well-known folk singing ensemble Mel, Mel, and Julian, the entertainment 'bug' bit, securing Mel's entire future as a sought-after performer!
Mel returned to South Africa in 1970 (after spending a few years in Israel), rejoining the folk scene, albeit with a fresh new dimension - comedy!!! Short stints on television shows akin to Biltong & Potroast followed, as did a good ten years on the Southern Sun circuit, and the rest, as they say, is history!
Mel, a South African comedy icon, began combining comedy and folk music in 1964. In 1976, he rose to prominence in the country's first television comedy series, Biltong and Potroast - "It took me 12 years to become an overnight success," he boasts.
