Ghia Koch-Human is a multidisciplinary artist from Cape Town SA, whose creative career has spanned from visual art to performance. She has graced the stage in a variety of live performances from music to theatre, as well as work on screen and off as a voice artist. This mezzo/soprano belter has performed in her one woman show as quirky cabaret character ‘Gigi La Chanteuse’ as the opening act for the ‘Chester Missing’ show at the Joburg Theatre as well as the co-star of the ‘C’est Bizarre Cabaret’ theatre show. With her rich, warm and expressive voice she has lead her function band ‘The Fizz’, covering jazz standards, modern swing and funk. As a recording artist, GHiA LEiGH’s original sound is described as having a powerful bass backbone with hard-hitting finesse that constantly experiments with her jazz, trip hop, rock and hip hop influences to create an eclectic yet compelling alternate sound. Since 2018 she has opened for a variety of well known bands while her live performance on SABC 3’s Expresso morning show received stellar feedback. In her new offering, ‘Ghia presents Flip the Script’ she takes popular standards/songs eg. Fever, Feeling Good, No Diggety etc and covers them in an original hip hop style commonly known as ‘Boombap’ or ‘Jazzhop’. The flips are performed with live electronic instrumentation and are strung together with instrumental transitions layered with catchy lyrics, vocal texture and some vocal looping serving a set or 2 of head bobbing groove and flavour appealing to a wide audience. Perfect for pre-show, dinners, product launches, corporate cocktails or art events etc. She has been performing this solo outfit at various local spots from music venues to comedy shows, galleries and markets. *A visual element as per the promo video is also possible at request.
