Kate Borthwick

Kate studied classical and jazz piano performance at the University of Pretoria where she achieved her bachelor of music degree (cum laude) in 2007.
In 2009 she was a semi-finalist in the jazz/popular music category in The SAMRO Overseas Scholarship Competition for keyboard players.
From 2008 to 2013 she played keys and performed backing vocals for Joseph Clark’s band performing the music of Queen in South Africa and abroad. The group toured to The Netherlands in 2011 and performed as The Queen Experience to an audience of 30 000 people at The Gelredome soccer stadium in Arnhem.
She was the musical director and pianist for The Fugard Theatre’s recent staging of Cabaret (The musical by Kander and Ebb).
Other theatre credits include Let’s Be Frank with Frank Opperman (keyboardist and backing vocalist, Aardklop 2008), Die Gespanne Passasiers (keyboardist, KKNK 2009), Jersey Boys (keyboardist, South Africa and Asia tour 2012-2014), The Rocky Horror Show (keys 2 and assistant musical director, Cape Town and Joburg, 2013D2015) and Sister Act (keys 2).
