ARTIST ENQUIRY

INGA HINA is a singer-songwriter from Gqeberha , previously known as Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape.

She was raised by her late grandmother who she still affectionately refers to as “Mawawa” in many of her songs.

Growing up, life was filled with soulful music and chats “e stoepini “ with uMakhulu, where she’d tell her about all the beautiful things she’d do for her when she’s all grown up.

“Our house was that corner house in the township, that always played good music, for the entire street to hear.

From The Manhattans to Tracy Chapman, The Spinners to Pavarotti and Michael Bolton.

That was my flex.”

“I was privileged to be introduced to all kinds of music early on in my childhood, this has entrenched in me an appreciation for simple, yet meaningful and relatable storytelling.”

It is this upbringing that allows her to create material that is honest and authentic which she is hopeful, “will forever resonate with music lovers” says the Singer/Songwriter.

In 2014, her first gig was writing and performing original music for an SABC series “When We Were Black” season 2, a year later she released her first single “Philisa”, a soulful love song.

In 2016, Trigger, a song she wrote in 2013 lands on a Mobi Dixon beat and goes on to sell multi-platinum.

Inga Hina released her debut album title “Promises To Makhulu” which is an ode to her grandmother in September 2021.

Her music embodies the essence of

Love, family and courage to relentlessly go after one’s dreams.
