Sibanye
Western Cape
Sibanye is a world music group with its roots in Cape Town. Their music is a fusion of Afropop and township jazz with colours of accordion, dance and song.
With their name meaning “Together as One”, they bring together iconic songs from Mzansi and tunes from around the globe into a distinctly South African sound.
Their live performances are a sight to behold and an experience par excellence with these fine performing artists of the rainbow nation. The band members are from Gugulethu, Cross Roads, Langa, Bloubergstrand and Melkbosstrand.
The group originated from an original Xhosa-Afrikaans song of reconciliation called Sibanye Saam Soos Een, composed by band leader Leon Oosthuizen and singer-songwriter Tando Takane.
Songs of the band like “Sesifikile” and “Sijabulile” have since been playlisted on national and community radio stations. The proudly South African outfit has performed in theatres and at arts festivals like KKNK, Gariepfees, Olive Festival and Woordfees. One of their highlights was an exclusive live broadcast of their 1 hour concert at the Gariepfees in Kimberley on national radio in 2015.
The band has made 2 albums to date: Sibanye & Sesifikile Ons Is Hier.
