Thabiso Masemene started his formal voice training in 2004 with Mr Pierre du Toit.


In 2005 he joined the Black Tie Ensemble where in the same year he understudied three roles by Donizetti, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Ernesto in Don Pasquale and Renuccio in Gianni Schischi by Puccini;


In 2006 he played his professional debut at The South African State Theatre performing, Beppe in I Pagliaci by Leoncavallo.


Thabiso is also part of a successful group called the Gaabo-motho Tenors; this group has travelled several times to Germany and Uganda, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Nigeria.


In 2007 he went back to study at Tshwane University of Technology and graduated with Cum Laude in his National Diploma certificate, then completed his Bachelor’s Degree in 2009.


As he was still with the University he played Nemorino in L’Elisir d’amore, Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte and Story Teller in Ntsikana by Henning Wargner. Sacred music performances are Obajah in Elijah and Mozart Requiem.


In 2010 he went to Germany to sing in an international festival called Schelswig Holstein Music Festival. He sang Brindisi with the world famous Renee Fleming in the South African State Theatre.


In 2011 he performed the role of Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, produced by Opera Africa. Thabiso Masemene is currently playing the role of Ubaldo Piangi in The Phantom of the Opera world tour; he has already performed more than five hundred (500).


He already has performed this role in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Manila, Seoul, Bangkok, Singapore, Shanghai and Daegu, in South Korea as well as Taipei and Hong Kong.


He has recently played Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola in South Africa.
