Levy also is the front person for two bands, Playing With Fire and Yid-ish. You may recognise her face from many commercials both local and international. Kurt Haupt Kurt’s musical journey has taken him from the operatic stages of South Africa to iconic musical theatre productions across the globe. Mentored by Prof. Albie van Schalkwyk and Prof. Virginia Davids at UCT, Kurt’s talents quickly led him to standout roles, including Tony in West Side Story and Dr. Frank N. Furter in The Rocky Horror Show . Touring internationally, he performed in highly acclaimed productions such as Yiimimangaliso – The Mysteries and The Phantom of the Opera . Having performed the role of Mary Sunshine in Chicago for over a decade, Kurt has also served as a judge on the Kyknet Fiestas panel . His passion for performance extends behind the scenes and has seen him share his talents as a repetiteur at Cape Town Opera and Assistant Musical Director on Beauty and the Beast . In Kempton Park the traditional Afrikaans way of living was a good life. Your mother’s breast milk would be brannewyn en coke, you would walk kaalvoet to school, and you’d hide your lunch money when a black man walked past. His family and friends stood back as they watched Schalk evolve from an Afrikaans conservative caterpillar into a beautiful dramaqueen butterfly, complete with a moustache and furry afro. It was obvious to Schalk’s parents that he would study drama, and to help numb the pain they sent him away to study at the University of Cape Town. While studying in Cape Town Schalk slowly began to realise that there was so much more to life than boerewors and rugby, and started doing stand-up in April 2011. On stage Schalk is fun and energetic and appeals to people of all kinds and colours. Schalk has come a far way in the short amount of time that he has been doing comedy. He has had the privelage to perform at some great venues, alongside some even greater comedians. A lighthearted side comment from one artist to another turned into a serious debate about putting together a three-piece vocal group, backed by a full jazz orchestra and band, to celebrate their love of jazz, swing, and blues while giving a modern spin to the genre. Swing City is made up of Lonehill Estate's Nathan Ro, whose love of swing music has always occupied the pop/rock singer's iPod; Graeme Watkins, whose background in music and theatre began as a swing singer long before his success on Idols or in his indie rock band "The Graeme Watkins Project"; and Loyiso Bala, whose classically trained background in music saw the singer as part of the TZKee The three vocalists, who were already buddies, joked about becoming a swing band. Years later, they took the idea seriously, gathered their pals from Figure of 8 plays in a rehearsal room, and Swing City was formed!"

Their mix of folk funky original music (and some unexpected cover songs) has helped them establish themselves on the local music scene; they've also played a few big KZN music festivals and opened for Prime Circle in Cape Town, Jeremy Loops in Durban, and Mi Casa in Johannesburg. While improvising around a fire in 2012, guitar-playing brothers Dale and Nick met lead singer Gavin. Dale and Nick, by chance, preferred jamming guitar to singing, whereas Gavin liked singing to playing guitar... So, with Dale's original song catalogue already in hand... A band was formed on Gus Brown Road.Apart from the three founding members, the band has had a few line-up changes over the years, with the powerhouse bass and drum twin combo of Barry and Ryan de Beer leaving to join a new project, but Gus Brown have recently had the good fortune of welcoming two phenomenally talented musicians join the band.Both are exceptional multi-instrumentalists. Both talented musicians in their own right with similar visions, their collaboration has resulted in international calibre music that captures the heart and soul of South African roots music. David Jenkins, better known as Qadasi, is a talented Maskandi guitarist, concertina player, banjo player, and vocalist who discovered his love of Zulu culture and music while travelling across Zululand with his late father, a journalist. This fascination increased dramatically over time, and his love for traditional music was born as a result. After graduating in 2010, Qadasi published his first studio album on the Sande Entertainment label, which is led by Sibongiseni Shabalala of the five-time Grammy Award-winning group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. His second album, released in 2014, received SAMA (South African Music Award) and SATMA (South African Traditional Music Award) nominations. Qadasi was presented with a KwaZulu Natal Young Achievers Award in 2015 for promoting social cooperation via Maskandi music. ’Maqhinga Radebe's career began in the mid-1990s when he was given the opportunity to tour the United States with Ladysmith Black Mambazo as part of the stage drama Nomathemba. Maqhinga founded Shabalala Rhythm with Sibongiseni and Thamsanqa Shabalala upon his return to South Africa. Maqhinga's ability was thrust to the forefront as a result of the group's subsequent recognition, making him a prominent and highly respected artist in the Maskandi industry. Maqhinga has five solo albums to his reputation and has garnered various prizes for his incredible musical abilities, including SAMA and SATMA Award nominations. He has played in front of crowds all over the world and has shared stages with a number of critically acclaimed performers, including Hugh Masekela, Oliver Mtukudzi, and Soul Brothers, to mention a few. David met Maqhinga in Durban in 2010 while looking for a concertina tuner. After a "jam session," their tale began, and the two have become solid friends, with Maqhinga serving as music director and producer on David's first solo efforts. After seeing the creative possibilities of uniting their creativity, the outstanding musicians decided to join forces. Over the past few years, the two have travelled both at home and internationally with their diverse blend, performing for audiences in the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, and South Africa. Lashis' Ilanga, their debut joint album, was published in 2016 and was nominated for a 2017 SAMA Award for Best Traditional Album. After reuniting with their entire band, Qadasi and Maqhinga released their long-awaited sophomore album, Ungabanaki, in December 2019. The album retains the spirit of Maskandi music while exploring the crossover of traditional and western forms. Aside from promoting Zulu culture, traditional music, and social harmony, the duo has been actively committed in rhino conservation, serving as rhino ambassadors for the Kingsley Holgate Foundation and Project Rhino KZN. The prospect of what lies ahead for this Maskandi combo, who is following in the footsteps of this formidable genre's giants, is really exciting.
