Cobus's talent is not limited to the theatre; he has been on television as Jak-Man in Paul C. Venter's Een Skoenlapper, Brut Weiers in Haak en Steek with Casper de Vries, and Kobus Welters in Dryfsand. Cobus is most recognised for his role as Allan Bland, the lawyer on Rhythm City. Cobus has also appeared in Stander, Hoof of Africa, Skin (starring Sam Neill and Sophie Okonedo), and, most recently, Born To Win as Henco. One of the most exciting aspects of his career was performing the character of his personal idol and role model, Mario Lanza, in the 2010 stage production "Mario Lanza - The Lost Legacy of the Next Caruso." Mokopane, Mahwelereng in the Northern Province of South Africa is where Billy Monama was born. From such humble surroundings he inherited a rich musical culture that combined traditional ethnic sounds with those from western jazz styles. In 1997 Monama was drawn to a guitar belonging to a neighbour. Largely self-taught, Monama immediately showed signs of natural talent on guitar. Billy Monama has also developed a great sense of melody by composing very catchy tunes without compromising on depth. He admits to being influenced by non-musical surroundings which then inform his music. Monama may have strong Jazz influences but is pushing boundaries all the time, incorporating many different musical cultures. To label him a Jazz musician would be to limit his world. Billy sees himself as part of the new generation of South African musicians that want to take music of the African continent to greater heights. Musicians that have a strong understanding of the local sound yet have global aspirations.

Our debut performance was at the UKZN Centre for Jazz's annual Jazz Jol. The band then ventured off-campus and into KZN's filthy dance venues to inject some cultural authenticity into the local music and salsa dance scene. Manteca has developed over the years, changing between a 13-piece and an 8-piece lineup comprising a culturally diverse array of artists with a passion for the highly rhythmically charged art form of Afro Caribbean music (which itself is a combination of European classical and African musical traditions). The band has performed at numerous corporate, cultural, and sporting events throughout KZN and Gauteng, including performances for Nedbank, StandardBank, Unilever, Tysons Property, The Comrades Marathon Green Mile, The EFF's tribute to Castro, and a well-received scripted and choreographed show at the Rhumbelow Theatre. Manteca's worldview and identity are all about fusion and harmony. In our music and our eclectic band lineup, we reflect a blending of cultural identities. In movement and rhythm, our music brings all peoples together. We enjoy integrating and collaborating with different artistic and expressive disciplines such as Visual Art, Dance, Architecture, and Fashion, and have even inspired a series of 'Manteca Shirts' by renowned South African Fashion Designer Karen Monk-Klijnstra.We perform a heady combination of Salsa, Kizomba, Bachata, Rhumba, ChaCha Afro and Latin Jazz styles, as well as some traditional repertoire, popular radio melodies in the Afro-Latino vein, and a few well-loved South African favourites that really get the crowd going. The band is also writing and arranging original music for the local festival scene.
