He has been doing magic since his teens, when he studied it at the Cape Town College of Magic. Stuart went on to become the three-year reigning SA National Comedy Magic Champion. He has been performing stand-up comedy for the past 20 years and is a veteran of South Africa's many comedy clubs. Stuart Taylor rose to prominence as the host of the hit travel show Going Nowhere Slowly on SABC 3. He is a magician turned comedian who has traded in his unusual adventures for delighting local and international audiences with his stand-up comedy acts (with an occasional touch of magic). He has received critical acclaim for his performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Berlin International Comedy Festival, the New Zealand International Comedy Festival, and the Montreaux Comedy Festival in Switzerland. He has performed throughout most of South Africa. Stuart has written, produced, and performed in nine one-man shows that toured throughout South Africa. His most well-known and famous shows include 'Techni-Coloured,' 'Learner Husband,' and 'Money's Too Tight to Mention'. Some of these solo performances have won significant honours such as the Ovation Award and Overall Best Comedy award at the National Arts Festival, as well as the Show Time Award for best solo performance. Stuart was inspired by the success of 'Learner Husband' to write the best-selling comic book, 'Learner Husband - A helpful guide for avoiding collisions with your wife,' which was released in 2013 with a large national marketing. Stuart's television appearances include, but are not limited to: • two Comedy Central specials (Live at Parker's) and • his one-man performance, 'Money's Too Tight to Mention,' which will be shown on said channel • Mzansi Magic aired a 6-part documentary titled 'Diary of a Touring Comic', which he wrote, produced, and directed. • 'Evita Live & Dangerous,' 'Funny you should say that,' SABC's 'Comedy Showcase,' MNET's 'Laugh Out Loud' • He has also appeared in a number of periodicals and talk shows throughout his career. His staying power was especially evident at the Just For Laughs Festival, Montreal recently – where he was selected to appear in a television special at the invitation of Comedy Central, which earned him a meeting with Warner Brothers execs. While stand-up comedy remains his enduring passion, John has begun a significant pivot in his trajectory with an academic slant. Vlismas was awarded an MBA scholarship at Henley Business School in 2017, and is in the process of completing this degree. His involvement at the prestigious school has seen him appointed as an associate faculty member and co-designing and facilitating course material with Dr Puleng Makhoalibe, John was also invited to speak at the Henley Global Masterclass Series in Lagos in 2018 with the Deans of Henley Africa and Global. The award-winning comedian still uses his public appearances to push the boundaries and broach taboo subjects. His ability to synthesize complex teaching material with crisp presentations and humour has been rewarded with excellent feedback from executives who have attended his Henley sessions. His insightful presentation on the ability of performers to size up a crowd and move them using a heightened sense of empathy, “The Shared World” has earned rave reviews from the increasing number of companies that have hired him to present during their leadership and strategy sessions. He began receiving music lessons at the age of ten from Welcome Soweto School of Music (Wessom), a small music school in Soweto. He attended his first Miagi camp at the age of 13 under the direction of Wessom, where he met other young classical musicians from Pretoria, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, and other parts of the country.in 14, he attended Holy Family College, where he met members of the Buskaid Ensemble, and later that year, with a growing interest in classical music, he enrolled in the National School of the Arts, where he met and studied with Maria Branco. He completed his Abrsm grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 while there. He had extra classes with Caius Opera during his academic grade ten. Zos then applied to and won the Eisteddfod, Phillip Moore competition, Roedean Music Competition, Grahamstown Music Competition, and NSA music competition with the help and assistance of his piano teacher, Sonja Van Zyl. In 2009, he performed as a soloist with the JPO in their Concerto festival, performing Vivaldi's L'estate. While at NSA, he played for the JPO Academy, which he joined following Matric at the age of 19, and got lessons from Miro Chakaryan. In 2012, he joined the Gauteng Camerata under Kutlwano Masote, where he performed among other young musicians.He enrolled in the KZNPO's Cadetship programme in 2014. In 2015, he performed as a soloist with the KZNPO, performing the first movement of Mendelssohn's violin concerto as part of their Young Performers performance. He performed with the KZNPO in the Grahamstown Arts Festival, on a Wouter Kellerman album, and in their WSS concerts. In 2017, he returned to Johannesburg and worked as a freelance violinist and tutor. Some notable artist's & project's he's worked with include his Recital at the Auto & general Theatre at the Nelson Mandela Square with Sonja Van Zyl in 2017, Web Maestro's MTN Opera Jewels, playing as a soloist for 'Narative Dreams' a play at the Market theatre & Umculo's St.John's Passion & Romeo's Passion, Simphiwe Dana's 2011 LyricTheatre DVD & the Simphiwe Dana Experience DVD in 2019, Msaki's live performances & an album recording & many more. In the beginning of 2019, he began working as a part-time violin tutor at the National School of the Arts, and in 2020, he began working as a tutor at Auckland Park Preparatory School. In Johannesburg, he works as a freelance violinist and tutor.
