Her love for performing, and in particular singing, grew to such an extent that she made the decision to take up a full time career in the art form. Opera is however not her only speciality or love. Her amazing versatility and ability to cross over the various musical genres is what makes her a uniquely talented performer. She completed her BTech Degree in Vocal Arts/Opera at the Tshwane University of Technology (cum laude) and received a comprehensive bursary for “”Best student in the Performing Arts Department””. Whilst studying she was a member of the Afrikaans All-girl-rock-band, Saarkie. This group toured throughout South Africa, recorded two albums and featured on television as invited guests on shows such as Steve Hofmeyer’s talk-show, Dis hoe dit is. Annemarie’s passion for songwriting and composition came to the foreground over this period and three of her songs are still receiving substantial radio airtime. Annemarie left the group to focus more on her classical/opera career in which time she completed her BMus Honours degree in opera at the University of Pretoria (cum laude). Her love for the theatre grew more and more in this period and she took part in numerous Student Opera productions singing leading roles. She was offered a permanent position in 2012 as a soloist at Mimi Coertse’s “”Black Tie Ensemble””, now better known as Gauteng Opera. She worked full-time for the company until 2014. Annemarie also made her professional debut in the Mozart Opera Cosi fan Tutte at the Pretoria State Theatre, portraying the role of Dorabella. In 2015 Annemarie attended and completed the Malie Kelly course, “Follow Me”. She was the main soloist at the final end-of-course extravaganza concert. In 2015, Annemarie auditioned and was accepted into Cape Town Opera (CTO) and has been with the company since. Annemarie is a vibrant, hardworking, talented and very dedicated artist who would love to gain more experience in acting, dancing and most definitely in the singing industry at large. ”
